Many of you know that we have been dreaming of this trip for years. We saved money and flirted with the idea long before it became a reality. At times it seems absurd that we lost so much sleep over making this decision. But the truth is that we loved our friends, our community, and the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. I had conflicting feelings about leaving a stable job that allowed me do something I really loved while providing an incredible network of friendships. But we also wanted to explore the world and visit new places. So we took the leap.
In July of 2018, we sold our house and many of our belongings. In August, we said goodbye to friends and family. In September we packed up a limited number of belongings, including our dog and bikes, and braced ourselves for the unknown.
We drove from Seattle to New York with a few stops to visit family and enjoy the sights. Then, we boarded a plane to Zürich, Switzerland with our confused and anxious dog. I remember sitting on the plane, overwhelmed equally with excitement and nervousness.
I am launching this blog on my 40th birthday because this seems like an ideal time for reflection. I want to document our adventures so we can remember them for years. And, I want to share the places and experiences with all of you!
