Germaine, France
After crossing the English Channel by ferry, we drove from Calais to Germaine. Â Just when we had adjusted to driving on the left side of the road, we reverted back to the right side. Â
By late afternoon we arrived in  Germaine, a village near Reims.  While this area is likely bustling with tourists during warmer times of the year, it was relaxed and quiet in early January.Â
The only eventful aspect of the stay was accidentally getting stuck in a fenced area of a nature park and encountering several groups of boar. Â A friend, more familiar with European wildlife than I, suggested that they may have merely been cute piglets. But the sound of communal snorting and hooves stampeding toward me was startling to say the least. In retrospect, I think I entered a sanglier (wild-boar) enclosure, but I still can’t figure out how the entrance was so accessible and unmarked. Next time we stick to champagne.Â
